Policing the streets in a ‘new’ South Africa

The elections in 1994 and the victory of the African National Congress heralded the beginning of a new era in South Africa as the focus shifted to telling the story of the emergence of a new society. During the course of 1995 and 1996 I spent time embedded at Hillbrow Police station telling the story of how, this once reviled police
force was reshaping itself in this
new world it found itself in.
